It was with great emotion yesterday that I got the news that Harley Davidson will be discontinuing the Buell brand, in an effort to cover their own losses, particularly while Buell in itself was doing very well in the current climate.
I had tears in my eyes, and a knot in my throat watching Erik Buell speak with his everlasting passion during the video announcement, that his life's work would be ended by HD.
Erik Buell talking about his bikes and designs with such passion is what made me buy a Buell in the first place, actually knowing exactly who built and designed my own bike, and possibly even turned a screw on it, was exactly what gave my bike the soul that I always felt all other motorcycle brands lacked.
Erik Buell I commend your work, and your passion for it, you have truly inspired me in so many ways that I simply cannot explain. I honestly hope this isn't the last we hear of you, and that I will see you doing many great things in the future.
Personally I'm holding onto my Lightning till death do us part. I bought it with the intention never to sell it, and that fact remains true even after the very sad news we received yesterday.
The only thing I regret is that my dream of one day attending a Buell Homecoming has been shattered, and that I sadly won't be able to add more Buells to my garage in future.
